 Mr. Louis (Luyi) Yan, the president and principal structural engineer, holds PE licenses in VA, MD, and DC with BS (1982) & MS (1987) degrees in structural/civil engineering. He is also a member of the ASCE, AWC, ICC and MASFA. With over 30 years of experience with structural analysis/design and building damage evaluation, Louis and his team hope to bring you high-quality service backed by seasoned experience, creative designs, and cost-efficient solutions. 

Before founding Louis & Associates, LLC, Louis had worked with national design firms, such as Bechtel DTP (as lead engineer in the Dulles Corridor Metrorail project, Phase I), Parson Brinckerhoff (as lead engineer in the US Air Force & Raytheon projects in Taiwan), and Wiley & Wilson (as senior engineer in security improvement projects for several US overseas consulates, and military bases around the DC area).  Louis has broad professional knowledge and hands-on engineering experience. He is familiar with both current nationwide and statewide building codes, as well as local jurisdiction requirements when applying for building permits.  

In his spare time, Louis enjoys hiking, photography, music and travel.
